CONSTRUCTION: Idents

Today in our class we learnt about Idents and how to create them. We learnt about how to make them using the green-screen effect. Thankfully I already had some knowledge about using the green effect so it didn’t take me long to get started.

The first thing we had to do was find the correct green-screen that we wanted to use. I our case, the production name we decided to pick was “TeethMark Productions”. Therefore, we decided it would be appropriate to look for green screens which involved animals like sharks. I worked with Max to create a decent ident. After looking on YouTube for a while we eventually came across the first green-screen video of a shark. We then proceeded to download the clip by using a technique I learnt before, which involves you clicking on the link at the top and typing “ss” before the YouTube and after the dot (Shown below).

Despite the shark we still felt that it seemed a bit empty still and needed something more, that’s when I suggested the idea of adding in a crashing wave green-screen, Max agreed with the idea and we then proceeded to search through YouTube for a good video. We then found a great video displaying waves flushing through the screen. So once again I downloaded the video using the URL trick and began to edit the clips together.

To make the clips work nicely, we decided to find a white gradient on google images. As you can see in the image bellow, we found a decent image to download. I then added the images and videos to iMovie. From here I overlapped the two green-screen clips and selected the “green/blue screen” mode which eliminated the green background and added them to the white background. In addition, we cut the clip of the shark to make it look like the waves washed it away. To end, I used the iMovie “Fade to white transition” which made it subtly disappear.

We then had to create a logo for our production team which didn’t take too long. All we simply did was go onto a website called “Dafont” and searched for an appropriate font to use. After finding a font we then typed in the Word TeethMark but missed out the “K” and “A” as we wanted to replace them with a different style. We saved the text and found the letters “K” and “A” in a shark style as the “A” had a little fin on top and the “K” had teeth on it (as shown below). We put the text together using Powerpoint

Our next task was to introduce the logo to the audience in an interesting way. We did this by finding a green-screen of a shark that swam in-front of the camera and temporarily blocked the view, we used this as an opportunity to reveal the text once it swam away. So, we put the shark on the green-screen and also applied the Slow-motion effect to keep it in front of the screen for longer, whilst it was blocking the audiences view I then added the text behind and set the timing of the shark right so that it would swim away and reveal it.

Finally, we decided to add the icing on the cake by applying a glitch green-screen, after finding and downloading the clip off YouTube. I edited it into the clip which proved to be effective as it added effect to our piece.

Below is our final Ident which we created:
